The website is http://www.ftc.gov , click on the link to identity theft when you get to their website. There is also other information you may find useful on their website. There are a number of instances where tax assistance is available. The person to talk to is Bob Heinel, who is the Veteran's Affairs Director @ (517) 546-6338. Taxes Summer Taxes The Summer tax bills will be mailed the first week of July. The bills are due on Monday, September 15th. All residents will receive a copy of their bill, even if the taxes are paid through their mortgage company. If you have any questions you may call the Treasurer's office during regular business hours. TAX DEFERRAL The following link contains information on tax deferral and the forms necessary to file a deferral. You may fill out the form online and print it for your convenience. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/homestead1_2541_7.pdf Please contact the township treasurer @ 546-1588 for more information. Senior citizen, paraplegic, quadriplegic, hemiplegic, eligible serviceperson, eligible veteran, eligible widow, or one who is totally and permanently disabled or blind may be able to delay paying their summer taxes on their homestead until the following February 15. You may also qualify if you are 62 years of age or older, including the unremarried surviving spouse of a person who was 62 years of age or older at the time of death. Winter Taxes The Winter tax bills were mailed the first week of December. The bills were due on February 17th. All residents will receive a copy of their bill, even if the taxes are paid through their mortgage company. Important Information Senate Bill No. 1165 became law April 30, 2002. The law provides for the collection of all the State Education Tax in the Summer levy. Even if you never received a tax bill in the Summer, you will now! NOTICE FAILURE TO RECEIVE TAX BILL DOES NOT WAIVE INTEREST OR ADMINISTRATION FEE. The legal responsibility of paying taxes on the correct parcel of property rests with the taxpayer. The Treasurer will not be responsible for payment on wrong descriptions. Please note - Property addresses may or may not be the same as your mailing address. In the interest of accurate record keeping and quick responses from Emergency 9-1-1 please verify your property address with your local unit assessor.
