The Township Hall is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. to conduct business. If you wish to speak with your Township official, you can do so by calling during regular hours: 517-546-1588. What can you tell me about the planning commission and zoning board of appeals? In addition to the Township Board, the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals also meet during the year. The members are appointed by the Board of Trustees to serve designated terms. The Planning Commission meets the fourth Tuesday of the month and the Zoning Board of Appeals the first Monday of the month, if needed. If a resident is interested in becoming a member of the Planning or Appeals Board, please contact the Supervisor indicating your interest along with a resume. We invite your participation. How can I get rid of my garbage? For trash pickup, you will need to contact a private contractor. Check your local phone book for names of those operating in the area. We also have booklets available at the Township with information for large item disposal as well as recycling. What schools will my children attend? Most of the children in Marion Township attend the Howell Public Schools. There are a few, however, who will attend the Pinckney Public Schools. Some of our residents located in the Schafer Road area may be in the Pinckney district. You should check that out as soon as possible for bus route information. The Howell Public School phone number is (517) 548-6200, Pinckney District is (734) 878-3115. You do not need to obtain a permit. You may use a burn barrel or have a campfire. If you are burning brush we ask that you keep the fire under control and keep a hose nearby. Burning construction materials is banned, as they create an environmental hazard . If you have any questions, you may call the Howell Area Fire Department @ 546-0560. What kind of fire protection do we have? The Howell Area Fire Department serves Marion Township. They have a satellite station located next to the Township Hall and another located on Marion Street, which has greatly reduced the response time for calls. The stations have volunteer crews and are under the direction of the Howell Area Fire Authority. In the event of a fire, you should call 911. Can I use Howell's City Park if I live in Marion Township? Residents of the Township have access to Thompson Lake and the City Park by permit which you may get at the Barnard Recreation Center on Grand River in Howell. The permits are usually available at the end of May. There is a fee of $40.00 for the first permit and a $30.00 charge for each additional permit per household. What cable company serves the Township? Charter Communications is the cable provider for the Township. If you are interested in cable, you can contact them at 1-866-883-5586. The Cable Company now offers digital cable and internet service. What is the local paper and radio station? The Livingston County Press is the local newspaper. It contains information about area activities, people, places and things to do. All public notices by the Township are published in the "The Press". You can contact the press for a subscription or pick up a copy at many outlets around the county. WHMI is your local radio station, at 93.5 FM on your dial. Property tax bills are mailed early in July & December of each year. If for any reason you do not receive one, please contact the Treasurer's office. You should receive one for your records, even if you have an escrow account with your mortgage company. It is your mortgage company's responsibility to request your tax bill from the Township. If you are a budding gardener, the Marion Township Garden Club is right up your garden path. You are invited to join other "green thumbers" as they do their thing. They have speakers at some of their monthly meetings to help inform gardeners new and old in becoming successful green thumbers. The Garden Club is also responsible for the planting and caring of flowers at the Township Hall. They do a wonderful service to the area and sure make us look good. If interested, please call the Township Hall at 546-1588. They're always looking for a few good hands! Are there any cemeteries in Marion Township? Even though we don't like to think about it, the Township maintains three cemeteries, Lakeside, Harger and Green. The cost for a plot in any of the cemeteries is $500 for residents of the township, and $1000 for non-residents. There is a $100 transfer fee to immediate family members. Our State Senator is Valde Garcia. You may stop by the Township Hall during regular business hours to register to vote. You can also stop by the Secretary of State Office to register. If you have any questions about the process, call our Township Clerk's Office, 517-546-1588. Can I use the Township Hall for a Meeting? The Township Hall is available for non-profit groups or homeowner's associations to hold their meetings. If you would like to reserve the hall, please call during regular hours and we will help you schedule a date for your meeting. Can I get a dog license at the Township Hall? Dog licenses are available at the Township Hall during the winter tax season; December, January and February. After the tax season, you must contact the Office of the County Treasurer,( 517)546-7010.
