Cemetery Preservation Committee

The Cemetery Preservation Committee is up and running. If anyone is interested in

helping, please feel free to join us. You may call the Township and talk to Tammy Beal

about joining.

Who we are.

A group of volunteers of all ages who share a common interest in the improvement,

beautification and preservation of Marion Township cemeteries and their history.

How you can help

We welcome you to join us. We need lots of hands, heads, hearts and historians to tend to

our cemeteries. There are a variety of indoor activities planned for the fall and winter

months. Can you donate a service or a skill? We are in need of signs, trash removal, wells

dug, pruning, trimming and gardening, as well as volunteers to help read, clean and reset

markers. Perhaps you would  like to donate winter hardy bulbs or perennials or help with

landscaping to beautify our cemeteries.

Do you need a service project for your group?

We can provide opportunities to participate in a project.

Preserving the Past

Cemeteries provide a great wealth of information about our past. It's not just a place to look

for deceased family members. They preserve the history of our community, provide a record

of our early settlers, honor our veterans, record epidemics of disease and memorialize

tragedy.

One of the goals of the Cemetery Preservation Committee is to read  and transcribe the

cemetery markers in order to provide the most comprehensive information to those

searching  for family members, genealogy and local history.

This is a painstaking process that often requires reassembling broken markers, cleaning

and up-righting them in order to get the most accurate reading. If this project interests you,

please join us.
